Monthly Outings

We strongly believe that photography is all about continuous shooting and practising

Monthly Outing at Chinatown

On 28th October 2018, we held our fourth monthly outing for the year at Chinatown!

The main focus of the outing was to expose the members to Street and portrait photography, and to learn more about photography from the people who joined us for the event.

Here’s what a participant had to say!

I feel that the photography outing was an experience for me as i just started photography, I was able to learn more about shooting portraits and gain some tips on how to take some good portraits.

Through this outing, I was able to learn how I can give better directions to the model and capture the moment of the portrait, and also because it’s quite dark, we have to use the lighting around us to light our subject.

In my opinion, the outing went quite smoothly.

Overall, this outing would be considered a success, I had fun shooting, gained experience and use my creativity to take more fun pictures. Hope for more outings in the future.

Monthly Outing at Singapore National Gallery (collaboration with instaSG & SMU)

On 22nd September 2018 we held our third monthly outing for the year at the National Gallery in collaboration with instaSG & Singapore Management University

The main focus of the outing was to expose the members to architecture and portrait photography, and to learn more about photography from the people who joned us for the event.

Here’s what a participant had to say!

I feel that the photography outing was a good way to explore the different types of architecture in Singapore and put my photography skills to good use.

Through this meaningful outing, I have learnt certain skills for taking good pictures of buildings and different objects with different angles and lighting and using the many different functions of the camera

In my opinion, the outing ran well in general, but it would be great if it was better organised in terms of time planning

Overall, the outing was generally fun, going around different places to take nice pictures. I not only enjoyed my self but also gained more photography experience.

Monthly Outing at Singapore Polytechnic

On 23rd June 2018, we held our Second monthly outing for the year at our very own home ground, Singapore Polytechnic!

The main focus of the outing was to expose the members to architecture, landscape and portrait photography.

Here’s what a participant had to say!

I would say that outing was really unique as it was based in our own school. This really allowed me to find new perspectives of things that we see everyday.

The outing can be improved by going to places in SP that we have rarely come across, instead going to the "mainstream" locations like the red bridge and the Sports Arena tennis court.

Other than that, the event was well run and gave a great experience for the members who attended the outing.

Monthly Outing at Gardens By The Bay

On 31st March 2018, we held our first monthly outing for the year at Gardens By The Bay!

The main focus of the outing was to expose the members to street and portrait photography.

Here’s what a participant had to say!

My experience during the Gardens by the Bay outing was overall enjoyable and interesting .The only downside was the lack of direction and organisation during the trip itself but other than that it was fine.

Collaboration Outing with NP & TP

On October 2nd, we held our collaboration outing with the photography/media clubs of Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic at Raffles Place!

For the format of this outing, members had to capture 4 photography themes in total. There was 1 group theme and 3 individual themes.

Here’s what a participant had to say!

It was rather fun. But the themes could be a little more specific like 'transcendence' (some people don’t really understand how to use the word and make a picture out of it).

If you think the photo is going to be nice, just shoot. Include a subject or fill the frame with it to make it more interesting.

Monthly Outing at Tanjong Pagar

On 27th October 2017, we held our third monthly outing at Tanjong Pagar! The main theme for this outing was 'Opinion'.

Here’s what a participant had to say!

The outing was generally fun and broadened my perspective of what can be done through photography, although it is not much but we managed to explore the different kinds of pictures that could be captured.

For example, the container areas favoured portrait photography, alongside the vibrant colours, whereas the central business district area leans towards landscape photography.

It was an eye-opener for us as we learn that we're merely touching the tip of the iceberg when it comes to variety, especially in a small country like Singapore.

Monthly Outing at Clarke Quay

On 15th July 2017, we held our second monthly outing of 2017 at Clarke Quay! The main focus for this outing is on street and night photography.

Here’s what some of our members had to say!

I learnt how to use my new camera, because I previously did not have one. Junwen was our group leader and he taught us how to take photos from different angles.

Overall, the outing was quite enjoyable and well-planned.

The outing at Clarke Quay was great as I got to meet a junior who is a great photographer! He taught me how to adjust my ISO, shutter speed and aperture to suit the pictures that I want to take.

All in all, it was extremely fun to mix around with the members and the committee members. I love that we have the outing towards the night as it is a different exposure for me!

– Danish Zikry @dzbif • SPP Member

During the outing, I learnt that there are many ways to take a good photo. The outing was fun and the juniors were very kind.

Although the place was very crowded at that time, the juniors still manage to take away learning points and took nice shots. I hope that future outings allow more members to attend the outing.

Monthly Outing at Punggol

On 3rd June 2017, we held our first monthly outing of 2017 at Punggol!

For this outing, we are focusing on Landscape Photography, as well as touching on both Nature and Portrait Photography.

Here’s what some of our members had to say!

I found out about the outing through my group leader for SPP Camp, Wei Feng. The outing was an amazing experience as I don’t really explore much anymore, and this brought back memories.

The best part about it was to be able to make more friends and enjoy the art together.

– Neo Kee Wei @authenticvisualz • SPP Member

I found the outing really fun because as a group leader that day, not only did I get to lead the members throughout the outing, I also got to learn the different and unique ways they take photos. Although the weather that day was really hot, it was a fun and fulfilling day at the end.

Monthly Outing at Bugis

On 4th March 2017, we had our monthly outing at Bugis!

For this outing, the objective will be to focus on grasping street and architecture photography elements. Some places we went to were Rochor Centre, Waterloo Street.

Here’s what some of our members had to say about this outing!

I think it was really fun and the places we went to were really nice. Overall a great first experience into SPP!

– Danish Zikry @dzbif, SPP member

I’m Junwen, the first junior in the committee to plan the monthly outing. Even though I had little experience on planning the outing, I’m thankful for the seniors as they were great helping hands and they guided me through step by step. The outing turned out a success as the members really enjoyed it, and I can’t wait to plan the next one!

– Tang Junwen @tang.junwen, SPP Events Head

The photos which members have taken during the outing have been exhibited along SP Sports Arena. It will be exhibited for two weeks.
